That Essential X-Men #5 is getting close to the end of my own collecting run...I checked out very soon after the Mutant Massacre/Fall of the Mutants stuff.
Posted by Kevin at February 28, 2004 05:08 PMI'm surprised there's gonna be another one -- the end of the Vol. 4 marked the point at which UNCANNY started crossing over with NEW MUTANTS and other titles on a pretty regular basis, so I assumed they'd end the Essential line there since the stories would be almost unreadable without their component parts. I'm glad it's kept on truckin', however -- it's saving me a small fortune in back-issue costs. As pathetic and unrewarding as it is, I'm determined to read every issue of at least UNCANNY X-MEN and X-MEN before I die...
Posted by Chris at February 28, 2004 05:11 PMWhy do they have to fuck around with the comics like this. This is the reason why I stopped reading X-men. (That and I can't afford to support the habit. I'm more of a Spidey fan anyway.) But SERIOUSLY! C'mon now.
Posted by Lauren at March 1, 2004 03:29 PMI'm not a casual X-Men reader, or anything Marvel for that matter; the only comic I semi-follow is Batman every now and then.
But from distant memory, it feels as though at least six or seven times in my life they've "reset" the X-Men. I seem to recall reading at least a half-dozen slightly-different X-Men origin stories.
Posted by August J. Pollak at March 1, 2004 05:45 PMEverything's staying in-continuity, August, it's just new creative teams. (Largely underwhelming new creative teams.)
