Pictures from a visit to
Mote Marine, my beloved local aquarium here in my hometown. Late May 2004...
This picture is blurry, but the moray eel in question was not. The moray eel in question was TERRIFYING. (The lights are very dim in the main aquarium, so pictures never come out. I've got like eight blurrier shots of this eel on my hard drive.)
Oh my God, the jellyfish are engulfing that baby carriage! Somebody! Stop them!
The last remaining photograph of your humble webmaster, Chris Conroy, before he was devoured by a giant squid. (The giant pickled squid Mote has is actually disappointingly non-fugginunbelievablyhuge, but it's still very big and I would not like to meet it in a darkened alleyway. Probably because if I met a giant squid in a darkened alleyway, it would be dead, and would smell like shit.)

Jackie's friend Craig gets a kiss from one of the manatees. One of them really did swim right up to the glass and press his face against it if he saw you watching him. It was either adorable or really menacing, I couldn't tell -- he came at us with remarkable speed and they
are huge...
Bye-bye, manatees (their names are Hugh and Buffett. I don't know which one is which, but one was definitely fatter than the other). It's been swell.
