SITE DESIGNS

A collection of images and notes on previous designs for DOYOUFEELLOVED.com and its predecessor, NOT ENOUGH OF ME. As you may or may not know, this weblog was once found at Geocities; the switch to DYFL.com didn't occur until April of 2001. At the time it was entitled "Not Enough Of Me" in homage to Gavin Friday's excellent song "Caruso." Why do we need these pissy pop stars when there's not enough of me?

Design versions 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 have been lost to the sands of time, but trust me, you weren't missing much. 3.0 -- a black-and-grey Gothish construction -- had some appeal but really was far too dark to adequately mirror my personality, even if I was miserably depressed all the time...

Version 4.0: January 2001

Not Enough Of Me | Archives | January 2001

This design -- launched in January of 2001 -- was the first one that got me noticed. Of course, the giant background image had a hellish load-in time, and I didn't quite know how to integrate Blogger into the table setup once I switched in February, so I lost the individal-table-cell look once I made the switch; but y'know, we learn from our (many) mistakes. The colors are nice, in any event.

I still use this design for the four months of non-Blogger archives; to see it in action, click on the thumbnail, or just right here.

Version 5.0: February 2001

Not Enough Of Me: March 2001

This was the last design the site ever had before switching identities from NOT ENOUGH OF ME to DO YOU FEEL LOVED? It's a bit messy -- extremely messy in most older browsers, as I didn't have a clue about how to use CSS properly and accomplished everything through table cheats which didn't render very well at all -- but I *really* love the giant Stortrooper, and the orange-and-black checkerboard. What can I say? I love garish shit.

The thumbnail link only leads to a full-size image, but if you'd like to see the vestigial stump of this design, you should be able to find a bit of it still remaining here --

Version 6.0: April 2001

Sadly, this -- the thumbnail captured by The Ageless Project -- is all that remains of the first DOYOUFEELLOVED.com design. I am such an asshole. Anyway, it was launched on April 1st with the rest of the site, and was accomplished with the usual awkward mixture of tables and CSS, and had a tremendously huge background image derived from the cover of -- what else? -- U2's Pop. Nevertheless I'm quite proud of this design; it was relatively simple and I really liked the look. But change marches on.

Version 7.0: May 2001

DOYOUFEELLOVED.COM > Weblog (oldschool.html)

Hands-down the longest-lived design in the history of the site, this bad boy resisted my every effort to replace it for over seven months. Of course, it was simple, elegant, and easy to use. But you just get bored, y'know? Still, I suppose there's no shame in being bland occasionally. For seven months.

God damn it.

You'll note that in the thumbnail, and on the example page, there's a picture of Santa in the upper box. That's not the image that stayed there year-round; in point of fact, the image of my eyes from this photo was there for all but the last two weeks of the design's life. But I'm honestly too damn lazy to cop that logo back into the design. Plus, as I write this page my FTP's gone all wonky. So guess what? History has just been reshaped by my ineptitude.

And that takes up to the present day. Hope you found some use for this section of the site, because to be honest, I think it was just for my benefit...
